I'm scared I think

Whats worse than the actual virus itself is how people are panic buying and leaving stores empty, I had to go to 5 different stores all around the city just to get some toilet paper and baby food
Yeah, I saw your post. Things here in Brazil are getting crazy too. We have some cases here, and some are start to appear on cities close to where I live, which is not good. Even worse, we went from 1 death to 5 death in one day - its a HUGE exponential growth.

Our president is a joker and thinks this is not "that serious" - probably he even got the Coronovirus (according to the first test) but he is saying everything is alright, but its not.

People start to get crazy here, buying everything they find. In one supermarket yesterday, there wasn't anymore meat, of ANY kind (beef, chicken, sausage, etc). And I had to to go other place to buy it, and things are getting expensive pretty fast.

This is why I am slowing down all my works.

We have similar situation here in Indonesia. Masks and hand sanitizers are gone from markets

I think people had panic buying here that government officially orders mini markets to limit purchases to some food such as rice, instant noodles and sugar

Still, we had shortage of sugar a month before, before news about Corona Virus started

But regardless, I'm still positive. I don't do panic buying and always keep myself healthy, not just to protect against Covid-19 but for any disease :)

Is there a Doctor in the house?

since they say that this virus is similar to the flu & the common cold in some ways,
as some of you may know the reason a cold feels terrible its because your immune system is doing you a bit of harm.

this video seems to have confirmed what i suspected was the most harmful component of this disease...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtN-goy9VOY&feature=emb_rel_end

it seems that one way to treat it is to find a way to suppress your immune system (to reduce auto-damage), isolate the victim in a bubble, find the most effective antibodies that do the right job (the ones that destroy only the infected cells) , multiply them & re-inject them (like with some experimental cancer treatments)

not an easy task, i doubt there would be enough equipment to give a "bubble boy" environments  in a large scale

I'm in France, the cases are rising, some people don't respect the confinement (stay at home).
I'm really affraid of what happen in Italy.
The fact to know this can be the same here in my country make me very scared.
I cannot think something else for almost 1 week now.

I'm counting the days, counting the cases. I don't watch tv or information, but I check the official government "summary"
I have the feeling everybody talk just about it. (including me, right now, sorry)
I would love to be in a "diciplined" place where ppl actually follow the rules etc.

I think I'm safe(even if I cannot be 100% sure), but knowing a lot of ppl will suffer of this make me very anxious...
Sometimes, I hate the fact I'm so "sensitive"

In the past, I used to go out for a walk, everytime I felt bad, now, I cannot anymore because it's forbiden.
Man, I can't wait until the cases start to slowdown in Italy and every other countries including mine...

it is a true test, my side that views things from a predatory stand-point keeps telling me that in truth this is meant to see & experiment how much can the general human population are able to stay put.

As a race, it is very hard to control us as a herd, it is hard to change collectively. Most of us know things cannot go on this way. If there is no meaningful change on the way things are done, we are extinct in less than 500 years or less.

interesting to see the data on how contamination levels go down, & right on time, since we are supposed to be in a tipping point.
would venture as far as to say that this data may help "the importants" make a decision

There is a saying in Hispanic countries that things are done either the good way or the bad way
Por las buenas o por las malas.

Just keep busy, exercise, play video games, read books,  watch movies - for me its not going to be that different...
i look scary & i'm weird, most of my friends & family i really liked are either dead or distanced, so my social isolation has been there 15 years back.
or more....

i will worry if services start to get cut off, like electricity & water.

but even then, there is books, magazines & other human beings that you can get to know.

if you have an old laptop, try to fix it up & load it with ROMs, modules from here, music.
just in case, don't matter if it has a bad battery pack, eventually you might get  your hands on a solar power thing or car battery adapters.

download some PDF's on first aid & medical procedures.

in a nutshell, even if at home there is plenty to do....

we are on total lock down here on my country, 266 cases so far, doesnt seem that much but starts to propagate exponentially, and still have all winter ahead, things will not get better any time soon, here at least.

Here in Los Angeles,  Our governor has declared that everyone should be wearing the masks full time starting on Thursday.
I agree with him.  I'm here making sure I practice social distancing and washing my hands.
I went to Sam's Club yesterday and half of the people are not wearing anything.

Crazy.

I was furloughed a couple weeks ago and today It became permanent,  found out I lost my job, I thought it might happen sooner so prepared in advance. I have some savings but that will end soon, Now I'm worried I'll lose my new house and end up homeless if this continues or we have second wave.  It's all doing my head in now, dunno how much more I can take.

danno Sorry for your loss, buddy :(

Things here in Brazil are getting worse and worse each time -  we are leading the South America COVID19 cases, with more than 100,000 cases and 7,000 deaths.

We were going through a political crisis, which became an economic crisis and now we have a health crisis, all at the same time. With a high chance of having a coup d'état and entering a dictatorship again.

It is really worrying.

Brazil's situation stinks, i find it truly sad because for a time it seemed like it could lead latin america, bolsonaro @ his cultists are just going to set you back a decade at least...

from a historical perspective, at least from what i see in the case of the US, & Mexico, things are heading right toward a cycle ...
I have to see how Brazil handled the Spanish flu & how it did during during the times of the great depression.

take care Illu, because the virus might be the least of your troubles.

danno

i don't know what to say man....

i have been feeling that looming devastation of being truly unemployable for years now, & its just dumb luck that i have my regular job to at least to feed & entertain myself, but the truth is the majority of human beings in metropolis all over the world are truly hanging by a thread in the last 3 or 4 decades...

do you know other languages?

So sorry to hear that danno. I'd offer you a place to stay, but the 4000km distance is kind of a problem. I know it sounds trite, but you can't give up. Just keep plugging away. Things might still get worse - but they'll be even worse than that if you give in man.

DC

Sorry to hear that danno and also to you too, Ilu. I'm really surprised Brazil's state is much worse than I thought

Our government has issued official rule of their own "lockdown". This does reduce Covid19 infection rate but at same time also reduce people's economy  :-\

Everybody wish government could issue good rule or something to solve the economy issue

O Ilusionista
coup d'état thats serious, I was never really worried about the virus itself but the knock on affect is the problem, I was reading about Brazil and it seems like the whole country needs a reset button, maybe the whole world is getting a reset, I just wish the reset was a positive one but I doubt it. Things are crazy there man I hope you're ok, I deactivated my Instagram for awhile if anyone is wondering where I've gone, all I see is Corona this, covid that and it's depressing me

oldyz
I hear you man, the whole world is hanging on by a thread, most people are only a few clicks away from insanity too, I have bouts of being unemployed but that's usually by choice, I tend to spend 6 months working and 6 months traveling and messing around with my hobbies but since the birth of my son last year I've been working ever since and bought a house, to be honest being unemployed doesn't bother me, I have ways of making money but they just aren't legal, and I don't really won't that kind of stuff around my son, I like legitimate work because I can prove my earnings and apply for certain things and life is generally easier being legit but I now feel the pull of the old ways again because of the current economic climate. I speak a bit of Italian as my partner is Sicilian and we spend a couple months of the year in Sicily,

Damon Caskey
Thanks man, I appreciate the love, I'm defo gonna dig my heels in and carry on just not gonna have much pride in how I've got to go about it but I don't have much of a choice right now, I hope you and your family a good, knowing you though you already planned for a pandemic years ago hahaha any holes I know you'll fill them straight away.

Bloodbane I hope you and your family are safe too man, I've not heard much about Indonesia in the news, this whole pandemic is just weird to me and I hope it's economic damage is not too severe.

Most harm is made when country is locked and people lose their job and eventually go broke, people are dying from infections every day in huge numbers but politicians did not make fuss about it till this year, what's really happening will probably come out in a year, its all very suspicious.
Yes people are dying, but they were dying all the time and businesses were not closed cause 5000 people died from some form of influenza.
Like with all things when strange things are happening then its usually becaise of money and media dont help at all, they love spreading fear, it helps their ad revenue.
Im not one of those crazy conspiration theory believers but that entire thing is very suspicious.
I guess they wanted to see how controllable people are, and all they need is fear, they dont really need any strong proof as well.
I dont buyt that "country is trying to save lives of their citizens" crap.... yeah sure,  im not as naive.Looks like they figured some business and are taking advantage of the situation.
China already went over the top with surveillance of their citizens and used virus as an excuse, similar like they did for 9/11 and istalled a lot of cctvs because they wanted to catch terrorists, sorry i did not bought that and i was right, Snowden revealed everything and i was not surprised at all.
Im also not surprised that google keeps every search you did on their servers and keep database about you tracking your internet life basically.
What a time to live in.

bWWd

what a coincedence, i logged in today to report what i have on my nick of the woods....

some back story first.  When Mexico and its recent elections, there was lots of negative press about our current president, lots of comparisons to the prez of venezuela, lots of comparisons with Lula da Silva, & their most desperate - comparisons to trump.
then a funny thing happened, the biggest mexican companies, threatened to move out of the country "camara de comercio" is their little club.
but here is the thing, even tho they are the richest in the land, they only make up  about 17 to 21 percent of the economy.

You see , the rest is the people & their little businesses, from the little bakery to the old lady selling candy on the sidewalks.

Another big sector of the economy is the goveerment jobs, (healthcare, electricity, roads, public gardens)

those jobs, people want them because either
A , you get to climb to a high position & start putting friends & fam on the payroll & the pension or
B -  at least you have the payroll & benefits & get to be an "anchor" for people you know to have a job.

the medical field-
most med students i have met only want the job because its a sure thing, they get steady income & ways for profit if they get far enough.
they do drugs, smoke & drink as if their medical knowledge was worth nothing. To cram for exams they use drugs they believe will enhance their memmory.
in a nutshell, they are not saints, heroes nor scientists & certainly not the most upstanding citizens.

enough backstory

Things changed here, some people , especially those with established - official tax paying businesses closed, especially if their "giro" or official purpose was - example  - a gift shop-
but the rest of the people, those with taco stands, flea markets, ice cream vendors, - they are still working

everyone uses the masks, & has sanitizer gel nearby, but the social distancing thing does not happen so much....
peoplel live day to day here, there is welfare but its complicated to apply, & its a pittance.

the IMSS (mexican universal medical coverage) mostly works for those who have family within the institution, & meds & equipment are scarce because big fish within steal & re-sell the stuff in the black market.

Here is the dicey territory,  i have relatives in the medical field & some acquaintances (i really cant be friends with people who do drugs) & have asked what is the deal with the cases.
first weird thing is they have not seen any personally. They "know" of people who are in a ward getting treated for it Or dying...
They did get a half-@ssed trackea tubing  (where they put the breathing tube down your throat) lessons tho, with no manekins nor equipment. They where told to use their imagination.
Some have told me of weird things, but they tell me no one says anything nor looks into it further, because they lose their job or current standing.
(what would you do, if you went for school 4 years to get a job, only to lose ALL of it if you upset a higher-up)

that is all i have from what i was told by people in the field.

Life goes on pretty much the same where i am, the stands, corner taco place, stores in every corner are open, wall mart has USA- like guidelines, some of the big establishments & markets closed, movies are closed, parks too, but most of the informal places & markets are still open.
i heard the beaches did close, but in my state going to the beach sucked anyway (no longer peaceful, all you could hear now was the loud clubs full of foreigners)

IN contrast to the USA, our government knows people will starve if they don't go out, they know drug addicts & their providers will not stop doing business.
there are insufficient shelters, & no capacity to process such large numbers of people with barley any documentation.
in the USA big businesses owns more than 60 or 70 % of the economy, so if they suffer, people suffer.
there is a positive , you do have unemployment benefits, so you can afford to stay home for 3 weeks (if you are a legal resident or citizen), but it is weird.
the government (both sides of the isle) gave a huge bail-out to corporations, that should have sparked a big protest, its like mockery, they did a huge nasty thing & they saw that no one went out to the streets nor voiced any outrage because you can't go out.

from what i personally hear , prisons are pretty much the same, there is some calling for testing & checking in infected cases, mostly from people with mild symptoms, & the only economy that the politicians are talking about is the ability for people to keep paying those interests & fees to banks
t, BEcause OH boy - those banks just keep calling & calling trying to collect their dues....

that's it for now, from what i experience here....

I stuggled to type a (long) message (in my average english) and got disconnected and lose my message.
I will just make it short. because talking about this situation in english in not easy for me)

The situation is very specific.
I just hope everybody her will get out of this situation safe.
Even if we lose some stuff. after this we will be proud to be here!

With all the due respect, but way of "thinking" is as deadly as antivax thinking. Really.

It's just absurd someone could dare to "think" as shallow as this...
