I'd totally play a Mad Max Mugen game, or an OpenBOR one too. In the case of OpenBOR though, you'd need driving sequences to capture the series feel, and they'd have to be done right.
I wonder if there are any sprites out there for ToeCutter, Wez, Lord Humongous, or the Master Blaster. The Masked Warrior from Pit-fighter would probably work as a base for Lord Humongous, albeit with a lot of color work to fix the digitizing artifacts. Not sure off the top of my head about the others. Maybe Death Adder for Blaster, and it would match up since you're already using Jamm's sprites. K' is one possibility for ToeCutter.
Thanks Damon Caskey, this Mad Max sprite is an edit of Violent Storm.
I'm already thinking of a post apocalyptic Openbor game and I've got some ideas (one project at a time ).
I'm agree with you: this can be nice to make a beat em up stage and after some driving sequences.
The unlicensed Outlander on Genesis and SNES follows this path:

There was this old game on CPC, Asphalt that can be nice to have in Openbor game like this horizontally or vertically:

I would love to have a world map like those in Last Battle in Genesis for the different locations:
Oh I know, and it's pretty good. The face still looks too much like Wade though, especially the expression. Max wasn't that emotional. Other than that I'd honestly believe it was out of a licensed The Road Warrior/Mad Max 2 game. Come to think of it, maybe the Spike enemy would make a decent base for Wez. You'd just have to edit in a lot more animations.

Damon Caskey: I like the expression of Wade, that's why I kept it: he looks completely mad and angry . If I make a game like this, it will be full custom graphics but I can finish this character if someone wants to use it.
Bishin Densetsu Zoku on SNES is slightly similar with a mode 7 for the car part:

Bloodbane: If I begin this type of game, I would use a North America post apocalyptic world map where the player begins to New Mexico and tries to reach the Canada using old roads (going from traditional desert to another cold desert ).
