New Marvel Beat em UP

(I’ve been spoiled by Kratus Mr Q and O Llusionista games.)
heheh I think you have been spoiled by other creators, as I really dislike turning a beat em up into a scrolling fighting game with very long combos.
Its something that turns me down of playing a game instantly to be honest - as if I want to play MVC2, I would just play it on emulator :)

I do like combos in beat em ups, but until a certain degree.
But if the very first goon supports a 50 hits combo, its a big no to me.

Storm animations are so damn good

The animations are really nice frame to frame, but the movement and scrolling is just embarrassing to look at. Reminds me of early projects here using move <int> for velocity, or startups that left us because they wanted a "modern" engine, went to Unity and ended up a stuttering mess.

Someone really needs to explain sub pixel motion to these guys - it's only been one of the most fundamental aspects of coding object movement for 50 years or so.

Haven't tried it yet. Maybe I'll just wait for the full version, so not to spoil anything %)
I've seen some complaints about the gameplay, mainly people are upset the game feels too easy, most enemies just wait there for you to approach and attack them.

That maybe the case. I don't like repeating the same move over and over. I like to cancel moves into each other. I wish I could be more specific but it's really hard to explain what I mean. For example. In Final Fight LNS you can cancel moves into each other. However, the game is really repetitive with the move canceling routes for a lot of the characters. The game loop is Parry 1x or 2x then chain some special cancels - Evade. Repeat with a Ultra move as you lvl up. Then wait for the mp to come back.

Then I play something like SOR X which doesn't let you cancel moves nearly as much. Yet I find myself needing to think about attacks/parries.

A game like Wendigo Blue has a great fighting system.

I find that people have different definitions of combos and player expression.

For cosmic Invasion. I guess you want to be switching a ton like this
I think this looks really neat but it's kind of hard to do on a hitbox. I have to hold down the team switching button with my right ring finger. Then that locks my right hand in place, which makes harder to reach the lower row of buttons. I imagine having the controller in my lap doesn't help for my freedom of movement either...

In general, the hitbox makes any game with a lot buttons harder to play D=.

Let me get it straight: for the love of the deity you worship, it's a beat em up.

I hate how "thoughtful combat design" means turning a beat em up intro marvel vs Capcom 2, with absurd and Boring long combo strings.
This is like a curse some modern beat em up are plagued with.

I am not talking about the OP himself, but the idea. I would prefer to see the word ending in fire than seeing the beat em up community turning into something at least close to the FGC.

The reason why they ALWAYS show one enemy on screen is because they are very bad at game design, if they put more than 1 enemy on screen you start to see MASSIVE holes in their design, it's fundamentally why beat em ups are different from fighting games but hype artist ignore it because "my cool 20 hit combo on a boring lifeless enemy"

If a standard enemy survives that combo it looks stupid and if you can do that combo to a boss it's not a good boss, really crap design.

The worst thing is crowd control with a combo, it's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in modern beat em up, 30 hit combos on 3 enemies that multiply into 90 hits, lame and dumb.

Enemy design is just as important but enemies have just become combo sponges, boring...

the difference between juggling an enemy in beat em ups and fighting game combos is huge but when you lack creative design you don't know the difference.

Yep, and someone said that is "wild to ask for a Marvel game doesn't play as Marvel game" like every marvel game must play the same, lol

Yeah, the last thing we need on a beat em up is this

It's the fact that people think it's a "deeper more thoughtful combat design" here's something off the top of my head, enemies in beat em ups can be approached at 8 different angles on a z axis.

How about at each angle of approach the player has a completely different move set? you could pivot around the enemy in a circle doing different moves at any given angle, crowd control would be great, you could combo until your hearts content, you could even combo with another player easier, command grabs, weapons, the possibilities are endless, there you go... I've just revolutionised beat em ups.
