Streets of Rage X (Windows / Android)

In Progress Streets of Rage X (Windows / Android) Beta 34

No permission to download
The project is currently under development.
Hmm, maybe not a lot of fun like other stages but maybe not too bad enough to be removed and lose the originality. But I liked the idea of walking on them both, maybe a new unlockable in future updates. Thanks for the suggestion :)

We can think in more different game modes after the main content is finished.
Any specific plans for future updates? Because i'm not gonna lie, SORX is already awesome and pretty polished, especially for a beta.
In fact, I wish there was a way to buy it for Xbox and/or Switch, but I know that will never be possible due to legal reasons etc. which is a shame.
I got the OG SOR1-3 for both (Sega Genesis collection), but playing the originals just isn't fun anymore once you try SORX lol

But you asked for iFrames on the move... Skate's not known for his damage dealing properties either.
Sure, buff the damage a little bit but he's a fast/weak stat character for a reason.

Except... not. Skate (in SOR2 anyway) had the best consistent single strike damage in the game. Examples:
  • Headbutt: 40HP, best in game (others do similar total, but have to land more hits).
  • Forward jump kick: 24HP, best in game.
  • Back attack: 16+24HP, best in game, and quick enough to use when you're held.
  • Roller Press (jump stun): 16HP, tied with Max for best in game.
  • Regular throw: 40HP, best in game and can't be landed.
Example: Clowning Mania Abadade in 30 seconds. Fastest I've ever seen Max do it is around a minute.

Sure the others could pile on more overall in total, but hit for hit, you either have to spend resources or factor in the impractical "secret" hitboxes on stuff like Max's Jumping Hammer or Blaze's Bltz.

The Migraine gets you 48 total, second only to Max, and that's on top of being able to throw both directions, something no one else can do. It makes sense his normal combo is weak and the Migrane has no iFrames, otherwise he'd be the only worthwhile pick... but the "weak but quick, strong but slow" tropes don't apply. This isn't Final Fight. Everybody in SOR can dish out the hurt. The game balance comes from more nuanced mechanics.

Really just expounding a bit here though. Things are different in SOR3. I don't know the damage values by heart, but comparatively they're a lot less vs. enemy HP, and in SORX even more so. It's not something I like all that much but it fits with the overall experience @Kratus is going for.

I'm glad to read that, thanks man :)
I have plans to add some custom content like the Streets of Kamurocho route, plus more SMS/GG content too.

Except... not. Skate (in SOR2 anyway) had the best consistent single strike damage in the game. Examples:
Certainly, maybe in SOR2 they built Skate focusing on adding extra damage in kick moves due to the skates on his feet. This explains the "pipe" hit sound too, where most strong moves have it.

I agree with you buddy, I followed the BK3 version in the current version of Sammy, but the SOR2 version will be more like the SOR2 game, this way we can have both styles in SORX. In addition, I moved some Sammy damage advantages to the running attack and front special instead of the throw move or jumping kick.

About the running attack it's not a big advantage but considering that it's done by one unique hit and having the first frames invincible, allows him to drop many stronger opponents without taking any damage. And about the offensive special, the total damage is only surpassed by Axel, but due to the amount of hits done it can fill both SOR4 heal bar or energy stars a lot quicker at same time.

How do I delete the save file on android?
Delete the files from the SAVES folder.

SORX is it's on app separate from OpenBOR app and SORX app doesn't have any visible folders. So, can't delete files from a Saves folder, if there is no way to see a Saves folder.

Another No-Death run, no juggle/rage/super/counter/etc... A very standard playthrough following the original gameplay, for those that still do not believe that SORX is possible to be played without an "ultra combo show", I suggest taking a look.
This one was not easy and Mr. X nearly spoiled the party haha. I admit that I'm having a lot of fun with these limited classic presets.

The path is the following:

"root/Android/data/org.sorx.engine/files/Saves"

However, for a new update I strongly recommend to uninstall the previous version totally, it will remove the Saves folder too.

Is it possible to edit/modify its save file as in more lives/continues, etc? Lol
If so, how's that done?
Not sure if you can modify your save, but you can change the number of lives and continues for sure - it's in Game Settings > Gameplay.
3 lives and 4 credits are standard, but I prefer 5-6 lives and 2 credits, since it's pretty much the same (4x3 = 2x6) and I never play with more than 2 players anyway.
9 credits and 9 lives are max - it's basically 81 lives lol. Not even first public beta on Mania was hard enough to require that much hahaha

It's great that there are so many different ways to play the game, A very creative feature thats missing from most AAA games.
Don't even start, I completely lost faith in AAA games after DIablo 4. Now I support indie devs, because they're the only ones who actually care about making good games. And you know what? I haven't had this much fun with video games in a looong time. Also, I like how these games respect your time, rather than being live-service-always-online-second-job bullshit. You play when you feel like it, not because there's a daily quest and you don't want to miss that battle pass reward.

Yes, I know - "Okay, boomer" xD

Exactly - Streets 2... - Where it seems all characters deal above normal damage compared to most of the other games.
If you compare his & the others' damage values to Streets 3/the other games where applicable, it's mostly night & day.
Compare the move to his SoR3 version, which is the sprite being used.

Also, the majority of speed runners use Max.
Using one example of defeating a boss effectively does not disprove the point. I can defeat R. Bear quite fast with Blaze but that doesn't necessarily make her the best choice for the rest of the game.

and that's on top of being able to throw both directions, something no one else can do
...Don't understand how that's relevant.

the "weak but quick, strong but slow" tropes don't apply. This isn't Final Fight
All these games lied to me...! 😭 :

For v23:

Re: Game itself

* Opening the PC version of game seemed to result in it opening then crashing unless I chose to run as administrator. Don't know if that's my PC's fault but this didn't occur with any previous versions. Copied to a fresh folder with no file overwrites btw.

* Suggestion: Would it be possible to bypass the score tally/stage clear screen by pressing the start button instead of having to hold down buttons to speed up the score counter?

* The intro/title screen still becomes glitchy whenever I stream the game via OBS. (That might actually be capture method/settings on my side tho.)
I'll look into it on OBS but do you know what it could be?

Re: Adam

* I noticed during the 3rd attack of combo (the uppercut move), whenever I followed up with a forward special, it would do the aerial special/dive kick instead of the regular forward special. Seems like the uppercut is treated like a jump so not sure if it's intentional.
(However, I personally quite like this so wouldn't be upset if it was kept. 😄)

* Personally prefer the previous rage attack but understand why it was changed especially being a little over the top.
Suggestion: Maybe extend this version with a few more hits & range +/or faster start-up in terms of hit connect to be able to better link into it from combos?

* Jump feels a little on the low side for Adam but I understand you want to make your own version of him.

Have only tested with Adam so far but will report any more possible findings when I next play. 👍🏽

Thanks buddy :)

Currently it's not possible to edit this kind of data.

It's strange, the changes were made only in some menus and game mechanics, it does not affect the executable. Usually it may happen only due to engine changes but currently it remains the same.

* Suggestion: Would it be possible to bypass the score tally/stage clear screen by pressing the start button instead of having to hold down buttons to speed up the score counter?
Thanks for the suggestion, I can check it :)

I'll look into it on OBS but do you know what it could be?
Usually I have this kind of issue with webm scenes only in low hardware devices, like an Android 8 phone I have only for tests. In any other device it works fine, maybe webm files have some extra cpu usage.

Some characters have extra canceling techniques during certain moves, such as Axel connecting his aerial special during the shoryuken move at the last hit of the front special.
In the case of Adam he can connect his aerial special during the upper in the default combo.

About the other Adam suggestions I'm saving many new things for the other versions. The BKM version is already planned and I'm thinking of drawing a third version based on the BK3 Axel structure. Once the current is SOR2 based, this way we can have SOR 1/2/3 versions for Adam.

Kratus, the content in the game is amazing, but have you thought about adding more stages?
I remembered Mythical Fighters which can provide lot of stage and backgrounds for an japanese style area, or the prototype for ninja gaiden for the Genesis which has stages that I find similar to SOR.

I'm pretty ok with this idea.
But they have to match in term of graphics etc.

Yes, I'm thinking of adding some custom content after all the planned content is done.

Does it make any difference whether you save the General in stage 6 (and if not, what's even the point of the gas?)
Yes, there's a difference. If you do not save the general, the SOR3 route ends at the stage 7, plus triggering a bad ending.
