My sprite animation reel

Yes I did get them from this tutorial but modifed a bit cause you have to change shadows hue and highlights hue compared to middle color, otherwise its gonna look dull.
So i use color picker to pic shadows of skin, and change their color balance/hue a bit to the blue side, then change shadows of clothes etc. I think you can do multiple at once (clothes and skin with one color balance change).
Also since i use gimp a lot i had to write this down for myself to remind later, most of this is for photoshop.

I scaled down in gimp using linear, you can use nearest pixel too, i also scale down only after converting to indexed 5 colours.

Tried to colorize his grayscale sprite...
They way he did it is basic and kinda flat/dull

Painterly backgrounds clash with pixel arty graphics where pixels are visible but with capcom cps2 characters i think they could work ok.

Just watched the video in the first post and saw the other artwork you put up BWWD, and I gotta say this is all pretty good. You can tell how much work you put into this animations. I'd say it would be very interesting to see what you would do with the Battletoads. It's hard not thinking of that mod when I see you around.  8)

Im still learning, we will see how the new Toads game will do at the stores.
I dont really do that much pixel art entirely from start to finish, i do big size lineart and just convert/scale down my animations to pixel level so theyre crisp and clean them up a bit , its time consuming to multiple frames of pixel art, or at least i assume it is.
When i see what some guys can do with 16 colours, its truly next level of art for me:

these are all made with spriter and then cleaned in aseprite.Some were animated frame by frame with limited frames like references.

Great job bWWd! Is there a Sonic / Tails fusion sprite ? :) The sprites that you show are only commissioned work ?
 
yes commissions, but the two running thingies with 1 hair are mine for godot platofrmer experiment.
I was provided one single frame for these characters and created turnarounds for sprites then entire animations.
 
Excellent result with these two sprites! It would be nice to have a game that has this kind of animations.
 
I updated it with axel, i was playing kratus sor and i got irritated how choppy walkcycles were, these are most important animations cause are played most of the time so should have at least 10 frames.
I agree it would be nice if there would be updated version with more frames , it makes it look just better and style is the same.
