So I've been wanted to make a shinobi game for years and I finally started it, Shinobi Blood (subject to change) I actually stared last year but I've decided to make that a mini game inside the main one.

Story:
During the boss fight with Neo Zeed in Shinobi III Joe Musashi left a trace of his blood on the battle ground, this blood was collected by dark evil forces and used in a cult ritual to raise a demon from the underworld, This demon is sent to hunt and kill Joe Musashi and other famous hero ninja's along the way. will the demon succeed ?


according to my gameplay no... no he won't succeed, This level is actually a little later in the game as you start off weaponless. Still unsure of some things (day/night cycle) but I actually Wanted to share my progress in Shinobi Blood with you guys. This game is going to be difficult as you're only getting one life to complete it.

Gonna be working on a life bar and a health regen system over the next few days
 
WOAW i love Shinobi ... so many years we miss one new Shinobi <3
Your game play is really cool, with a super power magic attack and some tricky platform levels it will be a great game :D
I love a lot the GG Shinobi because we have 4 Shinobi with different magic and it help to solve enigma ... really excited by your project :)

I want to do a magic menu eventually, pause game select magic kind of thing, I have no idea what kind of magic to do at the moment though, 1 stage you have to jump up a mountain to get to a boss and it's very tricky  ;D

You give me some dreams :D
On GG Shinobi the blue walk on water, pink walk on roof. or the yellow ? and pink launch bombs ...
With a swap palette it's not so complicated and maybe it can give some more gameplay ideas.
Or maybe you can let us choose the level at game start, and these abilities with force us to choose the good level.

danno this looks awesome... except for Joe wearing the demon mask... wha?

But loving the stage and animation. My only complaint outside the mask is you beat me to getting a Shinobi project out.  ;)

As for magic suggestions... well, you can start with common ones such as fireball (pierces through enemies), firewall (stays and burns any enemy touching it), homing shot and lightning storm (hits all enemies onscreen)
 
Nice progress, i like multiple background layers, Aere You planning to make HUD like in original ?

Game looks good the backflip is nice mechanic first I thought it was overpowered then you said you only get 1 life so i guess it is needed to survive.

Just getting to the back of the line to say "I also wanted to make a shinobi game" lol

Thanks man, towards the end of the stage I want to use some weather effects like wind pushing the player back.

Walking on water...hmmm sounds good, that's given me an idea for the samurai boss Thank you, not sure about the palette swap

Bloodbane You don't know anything about shinobi so ''keep quiet'' hahaha joking, :p Thank you for the magic suggestions, they are perfect for this game, I will create them and look forward to your feedback

I decided not to make a hud like the original because you only get one life so no purpose to display lives, projectiles are infinite so again no point to display that and magic will be selected and activated through pressing pause so no magic button, only 3 buttons in this game jump, projectile and melee attack (hold to block) I originally remade the shinobi III lifebar but it was too small and I never gave it much attention while playing, I did make it bigger but it looked crap on it's own with the other things to display.

I'm still unsure about the backflip, it defo comes in handy but I feel like it's missing something, maybe a jump backwards during the backflip to get some distance between you and the enemy

over the weekend I'm gonna work on a health regeneration system, was thinking some enemy's drop their soul upon death and that gives you a little life
 
I really love what you did.
I had a similar project in my mind, but you just did it so well!

Working on some more platforming, trying to make the building look a bit more multidimensional, only using flat colours but just testing some stuff out.

 
danno  yeah, those pseudo 3d effects are pretty cool!
How you did that? With parallax?
There is a way to to it using screens, but its kinda time consmuming.

I've seen other people use it but the shadows looked over exaggerated.

O Ilusionista do you have any examples of using screens? I think when it comes to using textured bricks for buildings I'm gonna need it.
 
danno I like the result.
Also like the interaction with platforms.
Do you have some specific method to code them effectively? Are they... "obstacles"?
