Streets of Rage 4

I've got a feeling Adam, Max and State etc are going to be paid DLC spoon fed to us over the next year after release, I can already see "Streets of Rage 4 Plus" with all the DLC characters and stages at a bargain price in the steam sale... gosh why am I so cynical

You are not wrong because this is indeed the current trend

Actually your statement holds a dam's worth of water.

Just support Mr. Din's version if push comes to shove.

Because that paywall, along with limited moveset, will be the major dealbreaker for me.

+1 for the judo/grappling moveset, it would be awesome to see Blaze breaking arms, squeezing necks, and throwing everyone around :D
But I sincerely doubt they will try something so long to code and to design. :/

I think what I hate the most is the fact this game is name SOR4.
It means Sega can never do the actual sequel. Even if they always looked like the gave up with this licence.

I would have prefered this not so SOR-like game to be Another licence or named SOR Return or something... Yeah, I know it's bad... ::)

I see a lot of negative comments here about the game. Guys, let's just wait until we get another trailer that shows more gameplay footage. Who knows, it might not be as bad as you think. Let's just wait instead of already bashing the game ;)

I know Madgear, I'm waiting for more videos of SoR 4
I'd like to see new moves, new heroes (maybe...) and new enemies in the next  video.

Pardon my pessimism but I want this game to be good & not just a runoff title that's bent on purism. We have to get our voices heard to convince them of how to make the installment good Look at what happened to Duke Nukem Forever due to lack of critical feedback, although I thought that installment was unfairly slated but nonetheless. This series need to be made great, to the point of even being recognizable near the level of he-who-must-not-be-mentioned.

Purism should be greatly preferred over undue "innovation".

But yes, I too feel predominantly pessimistic about the direction this seems to be going.

I feel terrible for not having jumped on this topic sooner. Soooooooooooo there's a lot to say about this game, I'm actually really excited to see it coming to life especially knowing what I know about the game play now. I'll be covering it on the SoROnline YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtxjaaM4mno

As for my thoughts on the designs and trailer and everything. The game is quite early so I'm reserving judgement however so far I do like the art style even if it's not what I've would've gone for personally. I like Axel and Blaze designs, to me they tell a story of what's been going on the past 2 and a half decades (assuming this game is modern day) the contrast between the now rugged and aged Axel and the still youthful and beautiful blaze tells me the team hasn't been in touch lately and have likely gone on with their lives for better or worse. The question however is, will they expand upon this? Even with some short cutscenes they could craft something amazing.

Needless to say I'm just simply happy there is an SoR4 hopefully it's good enough to keep me addicted, I'm certainly not looking for them to meet my expectations (they're quite high honestly lol) but this will surely put SoR back into the spotlight where it belongs and in turn give the community the treatment they deserve.

Also, I did a thing.

Edit: I'm flattered by the comments regarding project neo as well. I'm still hard at work with it but SoR4 has pushed me to step up my game. I'm excited for so many reasons regarding this game.

I already don't like the art style, it's flat and cartoon like with thick black lines that outline the characters,  using solid black to act as shadow and show visual depth in characters makes it look even flatter, it misses the grit like gradient of the other games in its appearance, unfortunately this art style translates the same into the animation, looks like animated chewing  gum fighting instead of the heavy stiffness of the previous games, comes across more like a 2d double dragon neon, I'm not even gonna get started on the music

I do actually prefer the fan made streets of rage 4, has a much better overall look and feel and I really wish they would of went in this direction.

granted its too early to say but from what I've already seen its not looking good as a streets of rage fan.

seems the fan made version is better 10x times, its more faithful to the prequels, just get that polished and add some magic there and there, it should be perfect sequel

I never liked that art style, very ugly and try hard. SoR4 isn't exactly what I would've wanted (ultimately preferred ariga's art style) but to say that is better is laughable honestly. To each it's own.

Heard some things about the juggling that I don't like, the usual stuff off infinitely been juggled to death. I'm certain this will be patched up in due time I really hope some Die hard fans get ahold of an early build and give as much criticism as needed.

I do prefer your style. Way more.

I adore your style and the way you've manage to recreate all of their iconic costumes into one game, plus extras and the brand new characters. It's one of my most anticipated games, honestly :)

What's interesting is how much SoR4 had inspired me to step it up. Soaking of which the special meter system in 4 is pretty genius, works like SoR2 but you can recover the health by successfully landing attacks and not getting hit back in the process.

I had a similar idea with specials working like focus attack is Street fighter 4 and the health would recover over time, never thought about using attacks to recover that health.

Seeing Din's art work makes me wonder why SEGA never hired him to do the job.

It's a LOT better than what they're doing with the art style.

well sega actually has very little involvement with the title. The team just approached them with a concept and the finally said yes. Kind of a bittersweet feeling to know all they really needed was a good approach this entire time but at the same time it opens a door of opportunity for future titles.
