I've mentioned it before in my status post 😎 . This is my entry for Brackeys Game Jam 2022 whose theme is You're not Alone.

This is another short metroidvanias I've made. Unlike previous ones, this one has new features:
1. Female protagonist 👩
2. Vertical room entering/exiting 🔝
3. Pranks :LOL:
4. Special enemy AI 👀

I'm going to update this game to implement ideas which didn't make it in time.
But nonetheless, enjoy this short metroidvania! :D

Pretty intense cause I had many things to complete each day but fortunately since I have coded many of the stuffs, I could get them done in time.
 
I'm always surprised by the games you create! And they have some unique feeling :)
 
I played it. I like the music a lot.

The jump mechanics are deliberated like that? I mean no like SMB, you press jump and at the highest point, you can move forward.
I beat the first boss, collected a big white circle, and on my way back.

The most difficult part for me is the narrow path with the spikes. Jumping those spikes is quite difficult.

( Edit: I just read that you can shoot in 8 directions, but I can only shoot front. Could it be my keyboard?)

Btw, non related, but I uploaded a small gameplay on Aliens Clash. Got stuck on one of the bosses:

Really? it's easy here cause you can move while jumping, not to mention you mysteriously can get free health item.

Hmm... it's been years since I've made Aliens Clash. I'm going to check what's wrong with Bacman boss fight.
 
@Bloodbane i think is a problem on my end.
I’ll change the setup to other keys and see if the issue continues, because is not only the jump, I have problems with shooting too. I can shoot in front.

Edit: I solved the issue. It was because the default control scheme was numpad. I just changed to the keyboard arrows and solved it.
And jeez it was a total different game! I feel like I was playing in ultra hard mode before!! Still made it all up to the first upgrade like that :)

Finished the game. Will upload a video later. Was lot of fun!!!

Of course not. I have various composers made tracks for me for free before. I simply reuse these tracks for my game jam entries ;).
 
Oh cool. It must be cool to make a game with an original soundtrack. Anyway, I already played it. It's pretty cool. One question, how did you do for the flashlight effect?

Oh that one, it comes from entity following player. That entity uses attached image as its frame and has alpha 2.
The black area will not be transparent however the bright area will be transparent giving flashlight effect 🔦.

I have updated this game and it can be downloaded from the link above. The update features:
1. Added another shot tier for Vimena (heroine).
2. New dungeon and new boss.
3. Redesigned previous dungeons.
4. New enemy type.
5. Updated bosses.
6. New traps.
